What is the difference between sessional and on-demand assessment?

Sessional assessment is assessment that happens at pre-defined times, otherwise known as ‘series’. Think of it as the traditional exam approach: CGSEs are sessional as they are all taken at the same time across the country. Not many of our current qualifications have sessional assessments.

On-demand assessments can be taken at any time of the year, whenever a learner is ready. Most of our qualifications adopt this assessment strategy as it provides the greatest flexibility for our customers who offer roll-on, roll-off learning programmes and means learners don’t have to wait for the next exam series, or rush to get ready for one.
