The EPA Process

Can the apprentice use notes during their end-point assessment?

Notes can be used, but during a professional discussion assessment only and in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • Notes must only be used as prompts for talking points. They can’t be used to plan answers in full or be used as scripts
  • They can’t be linked to specific knowledge, skills or behaviours
  • They can be written on both sides of an A4 piece of paper, in short form (bullet points)
  • They must be sent to the apprentice’s Assessor 24 hours ahead of the assessment. The Assessor will either approve or reject the notes and may ask for a visual check of the notes again at the start of the assessment.

Further information about using notes can be found in the Apprentice Handbook.
