Observation and professional dialogue

What should the apprentice prepare ahead of the observation and professional dialogue for the Learning and Skills Teacher standard?

The apprentice should plan the timings and content of observation to provide them with the best opportunity to demonstrate all knowledge, skills, and behaviours over the time allowed.

The following activities should be observed during the lesson observation:

- Conduct a planned learning and skills session with a group of learners as part of a course or series of teaching sessions.

- Deliver a lesson using relevant technology and/or resources to support learners' understanding and outcomes.

- Demonstrate subject and pedagogical learning through their teaching activity.

- Create a safe and inclusive learning environment, championing equality, and recognising diversity according to statutory regulations and best practice.

- Contextualise English and/or mathematics during a learning and skills session, as part of their own subject specialist and pedagogical expertise.

- Provide feedback to learners.

Apprentices should provide the End-Point Assessor with a copy of their lesson plan and any support materials at least one day before the lesson observation.
