Observation

What happens if the apprentice fails the observation for the Teaching Assistant standard and needs to resit or retake it?

If the apprentice fails any of the assessment components, they will be eligible for a resit or retake.

Resits/retakes are not offered to apprentices wishing to move from pass to distinction.

A resit does not require further learning, whereas a re-take does.

The apprentice’s employer will need to agree that a resit/retake is an appropriate course of action.

Resits and retakes are not offered to the apprentice wishing to move from pass to a higher grade.

Apprentices should have a supportive action plan to prepare for the resit/retake.

Any appeals in relation to the outcome of the end-point assessment (EPA) will be managed by the apprentice’s End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) whose decision is final.

Version 1.0

An apprentice requiring a resit or a retake can only achieve a pass (unless there are extenuating circumstances accounting for the original fail as confirmed by the EPAO, which must be taken into account).

The employer will determine how many resits/retakes the apprentice will be aed to take.

Version 1.1

A resit is typically taken within two months of the EPA outcome notification. The timescale for a retake is dependent on how much retraining is required and is typically taken within three months of the EPA outcome notification.

Failed assessment methods must be resat or retaken within a six-month period from the EPA outcome notification, otherwise the entire EPA will need to be resat or retaken in full.
