Observation

What happens if the apprentice fails the observation for the Lead Practitioner in Adult Care and needs to resit or retake it?

If the apprentice fails any of the assessment components, they are eligible for a resit or retake. A resit does not require further learning, whereas a retake does.

The apprentice should have a supportive action plan to prepare for the resit or a retake. The End-Point Assessor will determine if the apprentice need a resit or retake and the number of attempts they are permitted when resitting or retaking the assessment, is at the discretion of the employer.

In a resit or retake, the apprentice must complete a different observation activity to their initial attempt, and it must take place within three months from the fail notification, otherwise, the entire end-point assessment (EPA) must be retaken.

If the apprentice requires a resit or retake, their overall EPA grade will be capped at a pass, unless Training Qualifications UK determines there are exceptional circumstances. The apprentice is not permitted to resit/retake to move from a pass to a distinction.
