The professional discussion is a structured, two-way dialogue between an apprentice and the End-Point Assessor. The professional discussion is based on the contents of the apprentice's portfolio. The End-Point Assessor will ask a number of questions, based on an evaluation of the portfolio of evidence, about the relevant themes and associated knowledge, skills and behaviours being assessed.

The purpose of the questioning is to confirm the validity and sufficiency of the evidence provided, and the specific criteria can be viewed in the standard specification.
