General
What content will be covered in the practical assessment with questioning for the Hair Professional (Hairdressing) standard?
The practical assessment activity is designed to enable the apprentice to demonstrate the core skills assigned to this assessment method.
The apprentice must work on a minimum of two clients. Demonstrate professionalism and values, and have good behaviours and attitudes at all times. They must carry out consultations with all of their clients. They are to conduct a minimum of one shampooing and conditioning service on at least one of their clients. They should ensure they follow safe working practices at all times.
For colouring they will conduct a minimum of a T-section of woven highlights or low lights, then use one other colouring technique. Ensuring they change the depth and the tone of the hair.
For their creative restyle they should change the length and shape of the hair, using a minimum of three different cutting techniques.
For styling, they are required to style the hair above and below the shoulder.
They are required to conduct a curly blow-dry that creates movement, volume, and curl. They must also carry out a set of all of the hair and produce a hair up taking 80% of the hair up.
Post-gateway and before the observation, the apprentice must have carried out relevant tests on their clients.
The apprentice will be asked questions during the observation. Relevant products, tools, and equipment should be organised in advance.
Services can be conducted in a preferred order.
