What content will be covered in the practical assessment with for the Hair Professional (Barbering) standard?

The practical assessment activity is designed to enable the apprentice to demonstrate the core skills assigned to this assessment method.

The apprentice must work on a minimum of two clients. Demonstrate professionalism and values, and have good behaviours and attitudes at all times. They must carry out consultations with all of their clients. They are to conduct a minimum of one shampooing and conditioning service on at least one of their clients. They should ensure they follow safe working practices at all times.

They are required to create two barbering looks using a minimum of nine techniques. Implementing two of the neckline shapes and two of the outline shapes.

For styling they are to conduct one finished look on men's hair using one drying technique.

For cutting facial hair into shape, two facial haircuts of a full beard and moustache and a partial beard and moustache should be created. The apprentice must also conduct one full shaving service.

Post-gateway and before the observation, the apprentice must have carried out relevant tests on their clients.

The apprentice will be asked questions during the observation. Relevant products, tools, and equipment should be organised in advance.

Services can be conducted in a preferred order.
